A Match Made in Lowcountry Heaven – Two Family Businesses Unite!

Herrington Equipment, located at 6327 Hwy. 162 Hollywood, SC, has been a fixture in the Lowcountry for almost 70 years. Herrington Equipment, known for selling and servicing lawn, garden, and farm equipment for three generations, will now become Ravenel Truck & Equipment.

Longtime Business Owners

In 2021, the longtime business owners of Herrington Equipment, Harry V. Herrington, Jr. and Harry V. (Buster) Herrington, III, made the bittersweet decision to sell the family business provided they could find a comparable dealership that would continue to support the customer base of thousands of customers who have patronized Herrington’s since 1954.

As luck would have it, Richard Corbin and Mike Leatherwood of Ravenel Truck & Equipment showed interest in taking the dealership in Hollywood and merging with their already-established truck and equipment business on Savannah Hwy.

This was a win-win for everyone. After months of careful planning and strategizing, the deal was made. As of March 13, 2023, everything you’ve come to love about Herrington Equipment can be found in a new location at Ravenel Truck and Equipment located at 6380 Savannah Hwy Ravenel, SC. New Owners: Richard Corbin & Mike Leatherwood.

A New Era

Although it is a new era, with a new face, and in a new location you can be certain you will find the same hometown atmosphere. Folks in the Lowcountry have been relying on The Herringtons for their equipment purchase and service needs for three generations.

It’s possible that Harry V. Herrington, Sr. the founder of the business in 1954, sold a tractor to your grandfather or perhaps your great-grandfather. “In fact, it’s really a unique situation – we have known the Corbin family for years and years,” says Harry Herrington, Jr. My father, Harry V. Herrington, Sr. sold their grandfather, Ted Corbin, the very first 100HP-plus Allis Chalmers tractor he sold.

Mr. Corbin bought the first Allis Chalmers 220, 120 HP 2 WD tractor in 1972 that we ever sold. It was early in my time working alongside my father in the family business and was the biggest tractor we had sold up to that time. We didn’t have a truck big enough to haul it, so Mr. Corbin loaned me a truck of his.

I picked up the tractor from another dealer in Johnstown, SC, and hauled it back to Yonges Island where at the time Mr. Corbin was starting to farm on Simmons Bluff Road. I was really happy to bring home the first check we ever got for over $10,000!

Who would’ve thought over 31 years later Mr. Corbin’s grandson would be buying our business?!? It is a full-circle kind of story: two long-time families in this area with strong business ties and entrepreneurial spirits. We couldn’t be happier to pass the torch to someone with such great capability and business savvy,” says Herrington.

Over 30 Years Experience

Ravenel Truck & Equipment is poised for success with over 30 years in the equipment industry. They will continue to provide customers with superior sales and service experience and customers will enjoy the same hometown dealer with the same hometown deals from an industry leader. Ravenel Truck & Equipment has built its reputation for offering sales, service, rentals, parts, and all their accessories. They will carry top brands like Massey Ferguson, Bad Boy, Husqvarna, Bush Hog, Makita, Wacker Neuson, and more.

Herrington customers will still find the best landscaping, garden, and lawn equipment available, only now it’s conveniently located on Savannah Highway, next to Ravenel Ford and across from Ravenel Towne Center. And the Herringtons will be there to work alongside the Ravenel Truck & Equipment team for the first few months to ensure a smooth transition. Not only will customers see the same friendly faces they’ve come to know and trust at both dealerships, but they will also be excited to learn there will be more certified technicians on hand to meet your service needs.

Ravenel Truck & Equipment will serve as a one-stop shop for all things, trucks, trailers, lawn and garden, farm and construction equipment, and rentals for the Lowcountry. Additionally, if you need your tractor, lawn mower, or other pieces of equipment repaired, you can still bring it right down the road for that personal service you love.

Two respected families join forces to build a one-stop shop for all your equipment needs. It’s a great day for the Lowcountry.
